On Love
Last night during dinner, my Scientist and I had a conversation.
Scientist: "Mommy, I love everyone."
Me: "Is that so?"
Scientist: "Yes. I love everyone God loves, and He loves everyone."
Me: "Oh? Okay."
Scientist: "Yes, that what I told my friend, Allie."
Me: "You did??" (furiously replaying the tapes from a previous playdate)
Scientist: "Yeah. She said, 'Nobody loves me.' And I said, 'Well, I love you, because I love everyone God loves.' And her mom said, 'That was really sweet.'"
Moments like this remind me of seeing a sprout come through the garden soil. Sewing a seed and waiting really is all it takes to grow something.
It's also striking to me how he was both gentle and bold with Allie. Maybe that's what Jesus meant about becoming like a child. His little assertion of truth and love was simple and compelling.
Maybe that's all witnessing really is - simply sharing a truth you're already believing.
